Site Support Engineer will act as an on-site resource for managing local IT and telecommunications systems used by GE Oil & Gas. The candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts, security policies, and step-by-step procedures to a mix of technical and non-technical staff and occasionally to clients or business partners/vendors.
Essential Responsibilities
In addition to having the required set of skills, a strong, clear process-driven mindset is needed in every aspect of the position’s responsibilities and is essential for success. The position may require some work to be done outside of normal business hours to minimize the impact on business operations while performing regular systems maintenance or system migrations.
"The Site Support Engineer will be the key resource to maintain:
- Sites WAN circuits - Main and Backup Circuits
- LAN - Facility Wiring; Wireless Access Points and guest wireless
- Oversee general design, planning, configuration, implementation and systems management of Unified Communications / Voice over IP telephony environment.
- Provide leadership for the development of highly appropriate, tightly integrated, consistently available, secure, flexible, and fault-tolerant VoIP systems
- PBX installations and configuration; extensions configuration; GCOM, Cisco Call Manager
- Shop floor IT Infrastructure – Network drops, Scanners; Vending Machines
- Communication and Carrier rooms setup
- IDF/MDF or Server room relocation - Clean up, backup
- Move of equipment from one site to another
- Telepresence equipment
- Time Clocks / Kronos system
- Experience working with telecom vendors to install and troubleshoot data / voice circuits
- Experience working with leveraged IT resources onshore / offshore model.
- Support Experience with Microsoft Office 365 / Windows 10 OS or newer.
- Troubleshooting security issues
- Optimizing / reducing spend on End user devices and mobility devices
- Working closely with Command Center to monitor global operations
- Working with Operations Risk Manager and assist resolution of high severity incidents impacting biz.
- Proactively monitor and deploy regional and business trends to drive cost reductions/savings in infrastructure & communication spend.
Qualifications/Requirements
At least 7 years of experience in an operations role focusing on Network & Unified Communications for a large Enterprise.
1. Must have hands on experience with MDF/IDF Data Cabling / Computer Facilities maintenance.
2. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues
- Analyze requirements and provide technical network solutions
- Provide network technical support
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining networking gear, such as F5, ASA Firewall, Cisco switches and routers, including wireless access points and controllers
- Document network processes, procedures, and practices
- Be a part of the 24x7 emergency on-call and work nights and weekends during maintenance periods and service outages
- Current Cisco & Microsoft certifications mandatory
- Familiar with the latest technologies in WAN, LAN Optimization and Data Center Consolidation proven experience in ensuring highest level of performance and availability.
Desired Characteristics
